In November 2017, we celebrated the installation of a 45-meter deep groundwater well for the Huai Nam Khun dormitory. The well would not have been possible without the generous support of Bangkok-based Nok Air and the Seattle University Center for Environmental Justice and Sustainability. Initially, it will provide a clean and reliable water supply for nearly 50 children, and there are plans to build a small distribution system that will connect a neighboring church community during 2018.
The new well is a significantly cleaner source for the drinking water filtration system that we installed in 2007. The groundwater will continue to be UV-disinfected with that system. In addition to being free from sediment, the depth of the well ensures that the water will not be affected by pesticides from farming activities. It will also provide a more reliable water supply during the summer months when water taps often go dry by noon every day. Check out more photos here!
